This project involved the full renovation of the attic in a traditional rustic house. Due to significant water damage and leaks, the entire roof and floor slab were repaired and reinforced to ensure long-term structural integrity and comfort.
Taking advantage of the renovation work, the attic was transformed into a fully furnished apartment. The new layout includes a central open-plan space combining the kitchen, dining area, and living room, creating a bright and social core for daily life. Around this central area, a series of smaller, cozy rooms were designed to provide privacy and warmth, making the most of the unique geometry and character of the attic
The compact scale of the intervention provided an opportunity to approach the project almost like custom tailoring. Each corner was considered carefully, with design decisions made from a human perspective, prioritizing warmth, functionality, and coherence with the building’s rustic character.
The use of BIM throughout the process enabled close control of execution, ensuring precision in both visual outcomes and construction details. Every deviation from the initial design was anticipated digitally, reducing surprises on site and keeping the build aligned with the envisioned result. The consistency between the final photos and the early renderings speaks to the effectiveness of this design method in small scale projects, and the value of integrating technology into traditional architecture
Following the same design approach, all finishes were carefully customized to match the modern rustic style of the project. Balconies and several shelving units were designed specifically for the space, combining corten steel and natural wood to create warm yet robust elements. All raw materials were sourced and fabricated by small local workshops, adding both authenticity and a sense of place to the final result.
